What if donating your time for one night could help almost 400 homeless in our community? It can.

Once upon a time, my family and I were homeless. Sad and hard as that may be to believe, it happened. One hopeful move to a new home and the panic-stricken discovery of hundreds of brown recluse spiders later, (it was down south) left us in shambles and suddenly, homeless. Thankfully, we had family to stay with but a one bedroom apartment wasn't sufficient for four children and two adults. I reluctantly and shamefully lived like that for four months. It was one of the most stressful times of my life. The short-term effects were obvious. What is more heart-breaking, are the longer-term effects that followed. I can't imagine what being homeless for any longer than that, with no where to go, feels like. That is reality for nearly 400 right now, right here in the Quad Cities!

Humility of Mary Shelter's 4th Annual Sleep Out at Brady Street Stadium  is coming up on Saturday October 17th. It's an overnight event and will include entertainment like live music, a poverty simulation, Comedy Sportz, the Magic of David Casas, an outdoor movie the “Build your Shelter” Competition.

The Hawk will be there to support our friends, businesses all in hopes of helping end homelessness in our community. Step out of your comfort zone and experience a night of homelessness so others wont have to!
